BANGALORE OPEN AIR: The Down Troddence

Known for its unique blend of conventional thrash and groove metal, The Down Troddence is a six-piece band hailing from Kannur district in Kerala. TDT’s music incorporates a good deal of the essence of traditional South Indian folk music and art forms such as Theyyam. The band’s music is embellished with ambient layers created by folk instruments. Elements of folk have a strong bearing upon TDT’s music which is evident in the folk-inspired rhythm structures.

The Down Troddence is

Munz on Vocals
Varun Raj on Guitars
Advaith Mohan on Guitars
Nezer Ahemed on Bass
Ganesh Radhakrishnan on Drums
Sushin Shyam on Keys

TDT started in 2009 as Munz and Varun’s studio project ‘Ultimatum’. After the single ‘Death Vanity’ brought them to the forefront, the band had a complete line up and evolved from being a studio project to a complete outfit.

The band writes music from the perspective of the oppressed, about experiences and the dilemma in the lives of the down trodden, hence the name ‘The Down Troddence’.

TDT’s music is entwined around the philosophy concerned with inequalities and injustices, omnipresent in our socio-political system.

Each member brings to the band individual influences ranging from Tool, Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater to Megadeth and Slayer. TDT’s music is difficult to be filled into the dice of any particular sub-genre and features elements of thrash, groove and folk.

The well-acclaimed music video for TDT’s single ‘Shiva’ which received the Best Music Video award at the IndieGo South Asian Music Awards was the first big boost for the band after which there was no looking back! The band released three singles before launching its debut album titled “How Are You? We Are Fine, Thank You” (Dec, 2013), which received massive critical appreciation worldwide. 2014 has been a remarkable year in the career of TDT who swept eight awards at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards, 2014.
